ONE: When the wait is long and the way is unclear, we are tempted to look for gods we can see,
control, and understand
ALL: Yet God, our awesome God, is the one who brought us out of bondage into freedom.
ONE: Let us gather not to fashion an image of our own liking, but to worship the invisible,
holy, and living God.
ALL: Let us bow down in awe before our God, turning away from the false idols and
securities of this world and embracing the way of our awesome God; the way of LOVE.

Scripture of Assurance | Isaiah 25: 1-9
25 O God, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have
done wonderful things, things planned long ago. 2 You have made the city a heap of rubble, the fortified
town a ruin, the foreigners’ stronghold a city no more; it will never be rebuilt. 3 Therefore strong people
will honor you; cities of ruthless nations will revere you. 4 You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge
for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. For the breath of the
ruthless, is like a storm driving against a wall 5 and like the heat of the desert. You silence the uproar of
foreigners; as heat is reduced by the shadow of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless is stilled.
6 On this mountain God will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine – the
best of meats and the finest of wines. 7 On this mountain God will destroy the shroud that enfolds all
peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; 8 God will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign God will
wipe away the tears from all faces; God will remove the people’s disgrace from all the earth.
God has spoken. 9 In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in God, and God saved us.
This is God, we trusted in God; let us rejoice and be glad in God’s salvation.”

Scripture Focus | Matthew 22: 1-14 | The Parable of the Wedding Banquet
1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying:
2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.
3 He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come,
but they refused to come.
4 “Then he sent some more servants and said,
‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened
cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
5 “But they paid no attention and went off - one to his field, another to his business.
6 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. 7 The king was enraged.
He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
8 “Then he said to his servants,
‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come.
9 So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’
10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad
as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding
clothes. 12 He asked,
‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’
The man was speechless. 13 “Then the king told the attendants,
‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping
and gnashing of teeth.’
14 “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”

Sending Words | Philippians 4: 6-9
